Welcome to the website of Women in Nuclear – IAEA!

Who We Are

Women in Nuclear (WiN) IAEA is a professional network hosted at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. Its guiding mission is to advance women’s leadership, visibility and career development across the nuclear industry and STEM fields.

Building on its strong track record over the past years – including its contribution to achieving gender parity at the IAEA – WiN IAEA has evolved into a value-driven force focused on making gender parity sustainable. Today, WiN IAEA concentrates on supporting women throughout their professional lifecycle, from early-career professionals to senior leaders.

With strong links to the broader WiN Global network, WiN IAEA serves a highly educated, qualified, international community of women professionals working at the IAEA and across other Vienna-based UN organizations.  A significant share of WiN IAEA members hold advanced academic qualifications (Master’s and PhD degrees), primarily in STEM disciplines such as engineering, natural sciences, health, data, policy and related fields.

Our Mission

WiN IAEA’s mission is to amplify, retain and advance female leaders in STEM by providing meaningful opportunities for professional growth, development and cross-sector engagement.

Having achieved gender parity, WiN IAEA has refocused its mission on long-term impact: supporting women to thrive, advance into leadership roles and remain engaged in STEM-related careers throughout their professional journeys.

Our vision extends across the full spectrum of STEM, including nuclear and related careers. We champion women whose curiosity, expertise and ambition can drive innovation in any field they choose. By fostering an environment where women can grow, connect and lead, WiN IAEA is helping build a workforce where talent is recognized, potential is nurtured, and women can confidently step into the roles that shape our world.

Our Core Services

WiN IAEA delivers value to its members through two core services:

  1. Networking opportunities
Carefully curated events and platforms that connect women professionals across career stages, institutions, and sectors – including international organizations, the private sector, and academia.
  2. Professional and personal development opportunities
Activities focused on skills development, leadership, mentoring, career progression and learning, tailored to the needs of early-career, mid-career and senior-level women.

All WiN IAEA activities – including partnerships, resource mobilization and communications – are designed to directly support and strengthen these two core services.
