Introduction
The WiN IAEA Chapter was founded by staff of the IAEA, with Dr. Hans Blix, the former IAEA Director General, as one of the founding members.

The WiN IAEA Chapter is a part of the WiN Global – a worldwide organization of women and men working in the nuclear field, established in 1993 by a group of women working in a variety of nuclear fields in Europe and the U.S. Today WiN Global has around 2500 members in 68 countries and is organized in chapters.

Mission
WiN IAEA Chapter aims at establishing and maintaining a network for women working at the IAEA and other Vienna International Centre (VIC)-based organizations, enabling them to exchange knowledge and experience towards advancing their role in the nuclear field.

Objectives
WiN IAEA Chapter aims to achieve its mission by meeting the following objectives:
– Create a forum and network for exchanging information, ideas and experience towards the empowerment of women in the IAEA and other VIC-based organizations;
– Promote the understanding of radiation and awareness of the benefits of the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology through a series of regular meetings, educational and training sessions and various outreach activities;
– Enhance professional knowledge of the women working in the IAEA and other VIC-based organizations through conduction of seminars, training and workshops;
– Support young professionals and/or new comers to the IAEA by provision of professional support and mentoring;
– Interface with relevant stakeholders to advance human resources development;
– Gather information for planning appropriate activities to realise the mission of the WiN IAEA Chapter;
– Interact with WiN Global and national chapters of WiN and contribute to public information through participation in WiN activities; and
– Establish cooperative relationships and liaison as well as mechanisms and techniques by sharing information with Vienna Chapters of organizations whose objectives complement those of the WiN IAEA Chapter (such as Women in International Security (WIIS), the American Nuclear Society (ANS) or the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM)).

Membership
Membership is open to any staff member of the IAEA and other VIC-based organizations (male or female) who supports the WiN IAEA Chapter mission and objectives. The annual membership fee is 20 Euro. To become a member, please write an email to Women-in-Nuclear.IAEA-Chapter@iaea.org. The President of the WiN IAEA Chapter should be informed of each registration. WiN IAEA Chapter Membership Coordinators should be informed about membership applications in order to keep the membership list updated.

WiN IAEA Chapter members are also members of WiN Global.

Staff of the IAEA are members and staff of other VIC based organizations are honorary members of the WiN IAEA Chapter. Honorary members are invited to participate in WiN IAEA Chapter meetings and activities, and facilitate liaison between WiN IAEA Chapter and their respective organizations.

General meetings and briefings
Meetings are conducted every 6-8 weeks, educational sessions and special events on an ad-hoc basis. An annual meeting will be conducted in the fourth quarter of each year, with the objective to review the Chapter’s activities during the year and planning activities in the forthcoming year.

The annual reports of the WiN IAEA Chapter are presented to the VIC Recreation Committee.

Executive Secretariat
The Executive Secretariat consists of the President, the Vice-President, Treasurer and the following Coordinators: Mentoring Coordinators, Membership Coordinators, Education and Events Coordinators and Communication and Outreach Coordinators.

Each member of the Executive Secretariat is elected for the period of two years, subject to renewal.

The President:
– Provides leadership and coordinates all meetings and activities of the WiN IAEA Chapter;
– Represents the WiN IAEA Chapter at events; including the WiN Global annual conference and PIME (Public Information Materials Exchange) conference.

The Vice-President:
– Supports and works closely with the President to fulfill the mission of the WiN IAEA Chapter;
– Replaces the President when required.

Mentoring Coordinators
– Draft and implement a WiN IAEA Chapter mentoring programme

Membership Coordinators
– Maintain a membership directory of the WiN IAEA Chapter;
– Welcome new members to WiN IAEA Chapter;
– Coordinate the registration of new members with WiN IAEA Chapter and WiN Global.

Education and Events Coordinators
– Organize educational seminars, workshops, panels and other events (including identifing potential speakers and possible sponsors).

Communication and Outreach Coordinators
– Develop and maintain the WiN IAEA Chapter web site;
– Develop and issue periodical WiN IAEA Chapter Newsletter;
– Develop and issue outreach materials (e.g. flyers, posters, etc).

Treasurer
– Collects and administers membership fees and sponsors’ funds and disburse them as agreed upon.

All members of the Executive Secretariat should actively participate in meetings, events and activities.

Elections
Elections of the Executive Secretariat are held during annual meetings. A quorum of at least 50% of the WiN IAEA Chapter members is required. Those candidates who obtain more than 50% of the votes are considered as elected for the duration of the next executive term (i.e. two years). If there are more than two candidates for each of the positions, a second round of elections is held to elect one of the two candidates who obtained the most votes during the first round.
